Choose the hybrid
Start with a Pioneer corn product and the research behind its response to planting density.
iOS · Agricultural decision support
Turning agronomic research and economic assumptions into a planting decision growers could explore in the field.
The estimator helped corn growers explore economically optimal seeding rates for Pioneer hybrids. Users combined a selected hybrid with expected yield, grain price, and seed cost, then examined how planting density could affect estimated returns.
Pioneer documented the estimator as both a web tool and a free iOS app. A 2015 guide lists support for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, while a Kansas State review preserves the mobile interface.
The interface translated several kinds of information into one decision surface: hybrid response data, field expectations, commodity value, seed cost, and the planting population itself. Curves and tables made the tradeoffs visible instead of hiding the recommendation behind a single answer.
A later update added comparisons of as many as three scenarios, yield goals in 10-bushel increments, estimated net income per acre, and the years and number of research locations behind each hybrid’s response. Pioneer also positioned the tool as support for variable-rate seeding decisions across areas with different yield potential.
These are documented product capabilities. The available public record does not establish which release or individual features were part of my contribution.

The product brought agronomic evidence and farm economics into one interactive workflow.
Start with a Pioneer corn product and the research behind its response to planting density.
Enter expected yield, grain price, and seed cost to frame the economic conditions.
Review planting populations, projected net income, and competing hybrid scenarios.
Use the result to inform a uniform or variable-rate planting strategy.
